We live in a world where we are taught to be content with shallow commitments, but God is telling us that He wants us to cultivate an attitude of striving to have a deep relationship with Him.
There are five processes by which this spiritual formation can happen — this is the journey we must take in order to achieve that transformation God wants us to have.
1. Our Search
Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God.”
2. Our struggles
Ephesians 5:15-18 “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit”
3. Our Surrender
Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight”
4. Our service
John 12:26 “Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.”
5. Our significance
John 14:2-3 “My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
